Directions for use

For oral administration.

Recommended dose and dosage Schedule

Adult: One 5ml spoonful four times daily.

Elderly: Should be used with caution; a reduced dose can be recommended by a doctor.

Paediatric population
Codeine should not be used for the treatment of children under the age of 18 years.

What causes coughs?

It is advised to go and see a GP if you’ve had a cough for more than 3 weeks, it is very bad or quickly gets worse or you have chest pain.

  • Heartburn (acid reflux)
  • Allergies – for example, hay fever
  • Infections like bronchitis
  • Mucus dripping down the throat from the back of the nose

Who can use this product:

It can be used by adults over 18 and with caution in the elderly.

It should not be used if you are a breastfeeding mother. It should not be used if you metabolise codeine, into morphine, very rapidly. This medicine can affect a patient’s ability to drive safely. It is likely to affect your ability to drive, so do not drive until you know how the medicine affects you. It is an offence to drive if this medicine affects your ability to drive.

Your GP will only prescribe them if you need them – for example, if you have a bacterial infection or you’re at risk of complications.
